Docmap AS was founded 2005 as an independent company with its head office located in Oslo and the development department located in Stavanger.However, our history goes back to 1997 when the specification and development of a new quality management system for Statoil in Stavanger started up. Statoil had scanned the market without finding a proper system for quality management and document control.
It was then decided to turn over a new leaf and start developing a system from the very beginning. The architecture and user functionality were designed for one purpose only: Effective quality and safety management.
Behind the company at that time was a major ICT-actor in Norway ErgoGroup. The evolution towards a world class international system inside ErgoGroup proved difficult, due to the strategy of ErgoGroup’s mother company, Norway Post.
So in May 2005 Docmap® operations where demerged out of ErgoGroup and established as the company Docmap AS with 10 employees and some 15 customers.
Premises, infrastructure etc was established during the first weeks, and the company was in full operation in its own offices from the beginning of June 2005. Work on a new strategy started up immediately, and plans were made out based on the new strategy.
The strategy included five main points:

– Focus on Quality and Safety

Organic growth
Growth was considered vital in order to achieve the strength needed to manage and deliver Docmap® to big, demanding customers.Business Line Consolidation
Docmap AS needed to narrow in the scope of business sectors in order to be the best in a few sectors. So a business line consolidation was considered very important. The first business line was chosen to be the shipping industry. This was the business sector where the company had the best skills, the most references and the best competitive advantage.Focus on Quality and Safety Management
In close discussions with our customers we have chosen to stick to quality and management and only this area. We do this in the certainty that it is impossible to be best on in every field.International sales and support
This combination of strategic goals required that Docmap® focus its resources on international sales for growth.Partners
In parallel with the international campaign, the company has started a process for getting hold of active partners abroad, to ensure optimal sale, consultancy and support for our foreign customers.Today Docmap AS has 21 employees and around 40 customers of whom more than 20 are from the shipping industry. 15 of the customers are international, coming from: Europe, America and Far East.
